Hand Carved Cuckoo Clocks, also referred to as Traditional Style Cuckoo Clocks or Hunter Style Cuckoo Clocks, have been the most popular German cuckoo clock style produced by Black Forest clock makers. Traditional cuckoo clocks have become a German cultural icon. Through the centuries, traditional hand carved German clocks have gained their popularity by displaying intricate carvings and interesting themes of the Black Forest region.
Thanks to the intense carving with a high attention to detail, these hand carved cuckoo clocks are known for their forest and hunting themes, including imagery of bears, stags, birds, leaves and trees. Some hand carved clocks even have reliefs of castles on them, or alternately, small cottages. From the subtle to the ornate, and from the deeply stained wood to the colorfully painted, these hand carved clocks offer something for any home decorator. Whether dominating the wall of a cabin with a 32” antlered buck, or small and serene with just the right amount of ornamentation, a hand carved cuckoo clock will have a special place in your home.
And this is to say nothing of the motion of the clocks! Some have a standard cuckoo while others have elaborate twirling dancers. Your hand carved clock will never just be another piece of decor--it will be a centerpiece of delights for all who watch the hands tick by and wait for the time when the show begins.
When you get a hand carved cuckoo clock from Bavarian Clockworks, you’re not getting any run-of-the-mill clock that is mass produced and comes off a shelf in a warehouse. You’re getting a piece of art, a reflection of the master craftsmanship of the maker. It’s like hanging a painting on your wall, or displaying a sculpture: the carver of the clock will be forever linked with you and your family, and the clock will surely be handed down as a family heirloom, treasured for where it came from, who has owned it, and the legacy that it leaves behind.
VdS Certified Hand Carved Cuckoo Clocks
Bavarian Clockworks prides itself in being VdS certified. What does that mean? It means that our hand carved cuckoo clocks are certified as authentic by the Verein die Schwarzwalduhr, the Black Forest Clock Association. To earn such a certification, the clock and all its essential parts, from the clock case to the decorative details to the cuckoo pipes to the mechanical movements, have to have been made exclusively in the Black Forest region of Germany. The clock must be made strictly out of wood, except for the movements which must be brass. The clocks are powered by weights and gravity, not batteries. To be a VdS certified cuckoo clock is no small matter, and our clocks reflect that history and legacy of quality in all their look, function, and quality. All of our hand carved cuckoo clocks come with the VdS certificate of authenticity.
Whether you live in the a cabin in a forest, where your clock will fit in with the animal and tree motifs, or you live the city, where the clock will forever be a reminder of quality craftsmanship and a hearkening back to older times, a hand carved cuckoo clock will find a place in your home and your heart.
